Most people have heard about the fight or flight response. This is a physical response when we face what we see as a danger or alarming circumstances. Your reaction will be on of two, flight or fight.
This is how our bodies reacts to take care of itself, get out of the danger, either fight to win, or run to get away from the danger. When this happens the body get a physical reaction and release a chemical called adrenalin, and this triggers physical changes as these anxiety attack symptoms:
- breathing faster to increase oxygen in the body,
- faster heart rate to increase blood flow to the muscles,
- more tension in muscles for fast response,
- trembling or shaking,
and others...
This reactions will make us better prepared to fight or flight. F.ex. will better blood flow to the muscles make us stronger or faster. This survival mechanism has evolved over millions of years to protect us from danger and can still be useful for us today.
Modern is not really dangerous like it was before on a physical level. What causes anxiety today, social settings, have a presentation at work or in school, running away or fight does´t make sense. We have to learn to think about a practical solution.
Also today the physical changes can be helpful, but sometimes it is mental response that is required rather than physical ones.
